deliciously superficial, the fashion of men's wigs was inadvertantly instituted by a prematurely bald Louis XIII in the early 17th century. the trend continued in a variety of forms and waves (no pun intended) through the late 18th century in europe and the american colonies until the downcast french aristocracy and britain's exorbitant tax on hair powder caused the demise of the peruke maker's business.
